In this captivating course, you'll learn how to develop your own unique dress sense and become a responsible designer, maker and consumer. Through practical, hands-on activities, you'll dive into the world of fashion and learn how to design and make clothes and accessories. But that's not all – we'll do it all while being mindful of our impacts on the environment.

We're incredibly fortunate to have the support of leading fashion brands, who have kindly donated their industry waste materials of the highest quality. This means you'll have the opportunity to experiment and create with materials that would have otherwise gone to waste.

Throughout the term, you will become familiar with the sewing machines, essential to clothing construction. We will also explore the art of mending, altering, and thrifting, giving new life to old garments. You will learn about the life cycle of clothes and become a socially conscious influencer, making informed choices about your fashion consumption.

The class will introduce you to new technologies aimed at reducing the impact of fashion on the environment. This exciting learning opportunity is perfect for students aged 8-18 who have a keen interest in fashion and a desire to unleash their creativity in a mindful way.

If you're working towards completing your Duke of Edinburgh "skills" (from age 12+ yrs), this workshop is an excellent choice. You will not only gain valuable fashion skills but can also continue with us for your "volunteering" (from age 14+ yrs).

My daughter attended Astrid's classes and she loved it, a few years later I decided to follow suit and registered. I had never used a sewing machine before and here I am 6 weeks later with a completed wearable kimono style jacket and I absolutely love it. Signing up to the classes with Little Hands Design was the best decision I have made for investing into myself. Astrid's way of teaching allows for everyone else in the class to also help and share their own ways of learning. By my final class I was also able to help a fellow class mate and it was the best feeling! It was so much more than learning, it was growing, evolving and sharing amongst such a beautiful, dynamic and diverse group and a most wonderful teacher. We are delighted to welcome back our Lilyella, fashion designer and alumni of Little Hands Design. She can’t wait to share her love for youthful crochet design with young budding designers during this weekly yarn & crochet bonanza.

 

Get ready to explore the exciting world of crochet fashion. Alongside creating, we'll dive into other aspects of this creative field. You'll work with a variety of materials and learn techniques that will empower you to express your unique sense of style, and create loveable yarn plushies, known as Amigurumi!

 

Throughout term you will not only hone your crochet skills, but build a cool selection of handmade accessories and plushies to take home. Get ready to step into spring with a some fun yarn buddies, and a wardrobe that reflects your individuality and creativity. Students are also encouraged to ‘Customise with Crochet’ their pre-existing clothing once they have a hand on the basics.

 

If financial support is a concern, we believe in making this experience accessible to all. Please note we run a bursary scheme for low income families (evidence required) and a scholarship scheme for high ability students (with a supporting statement from their schools).

Summer Fashion Camps

My 7 year old daughter loved the Summer sewing camps and did 2 weeks there - the emphasis on sustainable design, recycled materials and ability to make things quickly was really rewarding for her and she will be back!

Little Hands Design is a charity providing hands-on climate change education through fashion and textiles classes. They are teaching the next generation of designers, consumers and decision-makers what sustainable fashion is, and practical skills towards a more sustainable life. This includes understanding the origins of where our clothes come from, the impact of fast fasion on the environment and building skills in how to make and repair clothes rather than sending them to landfill.

Little Hands Design are a group of fashion designers, dressmakers and teachers, all passionate about contributing to a more mindful way with fashion. 

Little Hands Design teach classes for children, adult classes and a Green Stitch Social Club which is open for all. These classes are run at the London School of Mosaic in Gospel Oak. They also run children’s classes directly at primary and secondary schools.

Little Hands Design are committed to ethical and sustainable fashion practices and to provide a safe, creative environment based on the ‘mindfulness’ approach.
